CURRENT LEGISLATION
NEWS FLASH: On Wednesday, June 4th, 1 p.m. there will be a Briefing on Solving Rising Gas Bills, and a Just Transition for Gas Workers. At the MA Statehouse, Room 222. Join us and make your voices heard.
The Gas Transition Allies work closely with legislative leaders to propose policies that advance our strategy of Triage and Transition.
We are currently focused on two legislative priorities:
S.2249 / H.3539 A Tactical Transition to Affordable, Clean Thermal Energy:
The broad objectives of the Tactical Transition bill are to:
Require gas and electric companies to jointly plan a coordinated, strategic transition to clean energy;
Redirect billions of dollars from installing costly and soon-to-be obsolete gas pipes to affordable and reliable clean energy alternatives; and
Provide an equitable transition for gas workers by allowing them to transition with their same benefits and wages to clean energy projects like networked geothermal.
S.2248 / H.3446 An Act Relative to Municipal Voices in Gas Utility Work:
The Municipal Voice bill:
Requires gas companies to provide more detailed information to municipalities about the purpose, scope, location, and timing of planned pipe replacement and repair work.
Enable municipalities to 1) significantly improve the coordination of gas company plans with municipal plans for work that involves street disruption, and 2) propose clean energy alternatives to pipe replacement such as neighborhood electrification.
The Legislature can and must take action to protect ratepayers while bringing utilities’ plans into line with the Commonwealth’s emissions reduction mandates.
